Virtual Museum 

Welcome to our Virtual Museum! Whilst our Visitor Centre is not open (just yet!) we want to give you an insight into our exhibits and the fascinating stories behind them all.  We have 5 different rooms for you to explore. These rooms will be updated regularly with items from our vast collection so check back weekly for updates.  

Room 1 - Art Gallery: Enter this room to discover some of our works of art. These range from large oil on canvas portraits to delicate miniatures painted on ivory, wood or copper. Many of the portraits are of the main antagonists who took part in the various risings whose images will be widely recognisable to most. Other portraits present images that are far scarcer. 

Room 2 - Militaria Gallery: This room has on display some iconic Scottish Basket Hilted Broad and Back swords, Dirks, Lochabre Axes, Scottish pistols, muskets and Targes.

Room 3 - Gallery of Personal Items: We feel that in many cases an artefact can be brought alive if the original owner is known. We have therefore created this gallery to contain all those items where we know who owned these particular pieces during the period of the Jacobite Risings. 

Room 4 - Gallery of Printed Works: In this room you can explore first-hand accounts of those who took part in the Risings or were witness to the events. There is also a vast array of National and Local newspapers dating around the period of the Battles. 

Room 5 - Miscellaneous Gallery: In this room you can view artefacts that are not displayed within the other four rooms. Here items vary from maps of Scotland at the time of the Risings to commemorative plates that remember some of the events that occurred during the Risings.
